When you are getting ready to go to a holiday party, it can be easy to throw on an outfit that makes you look a little too festive. Luckily, we have Andrea Corson of La Label Junkie with us today to share some insight on how to dress for the holiday season! You can still be in the spirit without looking too overwhelming. Have fun with your accessories and textures, just be cautious about what colors you are mixing. Read on below for Andrea’s amazing tips on your holiday outfit:

When we were kids, the obvious holiday attire was head to toe red and green (accented with your best sequined headband, naturally). As we grow up, it’s not out of the ordinary to feel stumped this time of year – how to dress to impress without looking like you could have plucked your outfit right off the tree. Or worse: Like you’re heading to an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party..when in fact you’re not. Let’s tackle how to do holiday attire as adults, shall we? Consider these all viable options for any of your upcoming holiday soirees.

1) Add some sparkle or sheen
There is never a more perfect time of year to break out the embellishments! Sequins, satin, luxurious textures..you name it, it’s all fair game. The trick is to let one spectacular piece do the talking. If you have a gorgeous sequined skirt or pants, pair it with a cozy knit or unadorned top to balance out the look. If you select a metallic dress, keep your shoes and bag understated by sticking with a neutral tone or picking a color from within the outfit.

2) Red and green are still feasible options (just not at the same time)
After all, it wouldn’t be the holidays without a little red and green! Call it cliché, but I love traditional holiday colors. But if you’re going to pick a classic holiday hue, consider pairing it with black or white so it really has a chance to shine. Or consider going monochromatic! There are more than a few incredible red jumpsuits out this holiday season not to mention red jacket/pants combos, so there are options galore.
3) Don’t underestimate the power of silhouette
There are a slew of truly fabulous midi skirts out this year, so consider venturing past the knee with your hemline. Elegant, ladylike..a fuller length can really pack a wallop. Take it up a notch by picking a showstopping texture, a bright hue, or a noteworthy print. The same applies to this year’s dresses! There are so many incredible shapes to work with, so give something new a try!

4) If all else fails, stick with the classics (but feel free to add in a twist)
Don’t overlook the classics. A wide leg trouser and a dressy top can be downright magical. So can a timeless blazer with a tailored trouser or even a great skinny jean. When your clothing is more subdued, it also gives you a chance to play up your accessories. Shake things up with a statement necklace, patterned tights, or a dash of faux fur. Velvet has made a comeback of epic proportions recently as well, so consider adding a pop of the ‘it’ texture with a velvet flat or heel.

“I love winter coats with color to easily brighten up your complexion. Even though a black coat is a staple for any wardrobe, it’s fun to change it up with a little color! Featuring a new party skirt in emerald paired with a black bodysuit, this look is easy to throw together. I must have 18 party skirts by now, they are perfect for every season and can be dressed up or down in so many ways! I finished off my outfit with black Louboutins and Elsa Corsi Jewelry for the perfect amount of sparkle for a night out. With full Bridget Bardot inspired hair, this look is girly and fun! I wanted to keep my makeup feminine which I achieved by wearing my favorite peachy warm nude lipstick that is flattering on all skin tones and mink lashes for extra glam. I finished my makeup with my new favorite palette for the face and eyes, which is perfect to take your look from day to night perfection.”
